A Star is Born, is on Friday 9 December 2011, at Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Street.

“A Star is Born”.  On 9 December 2011 at Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Square, Chelsea, CC21 joined forces with Intermission Youth Theatre (info@iyt.org.uk) in a programme of music and drama based on the story of the Nativity. Proceeds to  Intermission Youth Theatre (IYT).

IYT engage young people from London’s inner city communities who are at risk of offending or who lack opportunities to make something positive of their life. Their work takes the form of drama workshops which culminate in staging of performances (often inspired by a Shakespeare play). Since its foundation in 2008 IYT has received  considerable critical acclaim and has been instrumental in transforming the lives of many young people, including some who have gone on to R.A.D.A, the Brit School etc. Based at St Saviour’s Church, Walton Place, London SW3, IYT was founded by The Rev’d Rob Gillion, previously a professional actor and now Rector of Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Square.

In the first part of the evening’s programme CC21 sang Christmas music from Germany and France. In the second half CC21 and IYT performed Vaughan Williams’ late work “The First Nowell”.  This was a very special evening.

Before Messiah, we performed Music for a Summer's Evening, on July 11th 2009 at the Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair. This concert incuded the World Premiere of Edward Cowie's Summer, from Four Seasons, a joint commission with Commotio in Oxford.

Music for a Summer's Evening

Edward Cowie's Summer is the second episode in his choral portrayal of the Four Seasons, but is the first to be performed. The concert on July 11th 2009 marked the launch of the four-part commission, shared by CC21 and the Oxford Choir Commotio, who will give the premiere of Winter on December 5th, 2009.

Here's a few words from our Conductor, Howard Williams, on the programme content of Music for a Summer's Evening:

"Presenting a programme of music in which the word Summer appears in every single choral title might seem suspiciously like an exercice in mere tidiness (or perhaps the response to a wager), were it not for the delight that each piece offers to the listener and performer. If that is more of a bonus, however, then the underlying reason lies in my desire to give Edward Cowie's new seasonal work an appropriate context, in which the light and moods of summer resonate through the work of a variety of composers. To enhance further the setting for the new work, I have chosen to include works for solo harp, an instrument which has a special place in Edward's musical language and output."
