Howard Williams,
the musical director of CC21, has conducted most of the major
orchestras in the UK, including the London Philharmonic, Royal
Philharmonic and BBC Symphony, as well as the Royal Liverpool
Philharmonic and City of London Sinfonia.
His conducting career has also taken him to Budapest, Hong Kong, France
and Spain with ensembles including the Vienna Radio Symphony,
Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, Orchestre National de Lyon and the
Portuguese National Symphony Orchestra.In 1989, he was appointed Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Pécs Symphony Orchestra, the first British conductor to hold such a position in Hungary. Since then, Howard Williams has devoted a significant amount of time to working with the leading symphony orchestras in Hungary. In 1997, he was honoured with the Bartók medal for services to Hungarian music abroad. Through his lifelong close involvement with singers and singing, Howard Williams has developed a strong and continuing association with choirs, both with orchestra and a cappella. The many choirs he has worked with include the Hungarian State Choir, The French Army Male Voice Choir, the Leeds Festival Chorus and the BBC Singers.
